Schedule: The Youth Program Manager will work 35 to 40 hours per week. The Manager must be available to stay on site up until 7P during the school year.
About Us: Harlem Grown’s mission is to inspire youth to live healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition.
Our Farms & Facilities: Harlem Grown operates three soil-based urban farms; four school gardens, and one hydroponic greenhouse, and is currently building a new soil-based farm and hydroponic facility. Our offices and properties are located between 122 and 151 Streets in Central and East Harlem, Manhattan.
Our Programs: Harlem Grown provides youth and community development programs focused on urban farming, wellness, and sustainability. Our youth focused programs include intensive school partnerships placing sustainability mentors in four public schools, as well as educational farm tours, summer camp, a Saturday enrichment program, and a workforce development program for at-risk young adults. Our community development programs include wellness workshops, special events, commercial and community food scrap collection for composting, and fresh farm produce distribution to participants, volunteers, and neighborhood residents.
Job Overview: Harlem Grown is seeking a responsible, enthusiastic, and organized self-starter to design, implement, and evaluate a new, drop-in afterschool and summer program for youth (grades 1 to 8) located in a new residential community center. The Manager will plan and supervise daily activities, which may include farming, cooking, crafts, and homework help. The Manager will hire, train and supervise part-time educators, plan and lead activities, communicate with community stakeholders, promote the program, and help to manage an on-site farm.
Responsibilities
Hire and supervise staff including part-time educators, mentors & interns
Structure and coordinate orientation and ongoing training for all program staff
Design, plan, and lead daily program content & structure for drop-in afterschool programming and summer activities
Report to HG Program Director to ensure all programming is aligned with HG’s mission
Compile monthly reports to track program outcomes, accomplishments, and challenges
Manage communication with parents/guardians and site building management
Monitor the health and safety of all youth participants
Serve as a role model for youth and reinforce Harlem Grown’s values of honesty, respect, and responsibility
Know, enforce, and follow all HG safety guidelines
Qualifications
Must have at least 2 years experience working directly with youth, including at least 1 year of experience supervising staff in a child care program or related field of work
Must have an associates degree or 2 years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field; or a recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period
Experience/Education in urban farming, gardening, nutrition, or environmental science, preferred
Upon hire, completion of First Aid and CPR (provided by Harlem Grown)

Enthusiasm, passion, patience, flexibility, and high-energy
Bilingual in English & Spanish, a plus
