Peat is making organic waste management more affordable, more transparent, and more reliable by turning them into local, sustainable, and nutritious mushrooms. Our mission is to eliminate organic waste from landfills and we’re just getting started with fungi.

What you’ll do
Peat is seeking a Farm Operations Manager who will oversee and be responsible for the complete operation of our ever-growing indoor farming facilities. Reporting to the Co-Founder and CEO, you will be responsible for the end-to-end operation, including team development, health & safety, food safety & quality, cost, unit economics, crop health, people development and service. You will build and develop the best and most complete operation possible. Farm Operations Managers are highly motivated individuals and analytical problem solvers who are able to set big bold goals, interpret data, and deliver business results. You will work cross-functionally with R&D, Waste Management Operations, Sales and Marketing in a fast-growing environment. Peat is on the path to eliminate organic waste from landfills and we need your experience and passion to help us achieve this mission together!
Farming Operations and Delivery
Ensure farm stays on schedule, from food waste drop off to boxed for delivery
-Work with sales and logistics team to meet weekly delivery forecasts and targets
-Collect and analyze data to identify production bottlenecks and resolve existing issues
-Advise and implement best practices for indoor vertical farm operations for continuous improvement and integration into new farm facilities
-Coordinate cross-functionally with headquarters, R&D, and operations staff to ensure that all critical elements of managing a farm are aligned and integrated
-Work cross-functionally with the rest of the team to improve aspects of farm facility/facilities
-Ensure all KPI’s are met/exceeded for production, quality, costs and safety such as yields per block, revenue per sqft, unit profit margins as defined with the team.
Team Development & Productivity
-Onboard, train, motivate and coach mushroom growers by creating an environment for education, ownership and leadership
-Plan and coordinate shift work scheduling for all mushroom growers to ensure high productivity and engagement
-Ensure all employees are trained and proficient in any job they are required to perform
-Maintain and develop a culture of food safety, operational efficiency, impact-driving whilst having fun doing so
Health & Safety, Food Safety and Quality
-Manage food safety by implementing SOP’s aligned with compliance and best practices
-Maintain hazard action plan protocols and standards
-Ensure equipment is properly maintained
-Supervision of cleaning and maintenance in all production areas daily
-Diagnose crop performance and partner with R&D team to recommend new techniques and processes that can improve crop yield
-Work closely with our R&D team to develop and implement our crop roadmap turning R&D into execution.
-Implement and grow our indoor farming facilities and systems.
Who you are
-Relevant experience managing indoor vertical farms or greenhouse operations; experience with mycology would be a bonus
-BS in relevant fields (operations, engineering, plant science, horticulture, biology, mycology, agriculture or related fields). Can be supplemented with experience
-Understanding of instrumentation, data collection, basic process automation, and control systems
-Strong communicator capable of coordinating with cross functional teams
-Experienced manager capable of overseeing large scale operations and enjoy mentoring and coaching a team with diverse levels of experience working
-Ownership mindset, creative problem solver and outcome oriented, experience with early stage startups is a bonus
-Ability to walk, stand, and/or bend continuously and for extended periods as required to perform essential job functions.
-Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects. Able to lift 20+ lbs.
-Able to work nights, weekends and holidays, and variable schedule, per the needs of the business.
-Ability to perform essential job functions under pressure, maintain professionalism when working under stress.
